Project Description
In August 2021, the City of Kaufman selected Performance Services to implement an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project to modernize the City’s aging water service infrastructure. The project will replace 2,874 mechanical meters with new smart water meters and replace all meter boxes and lids. This 21st-Century technology will improve operational efficiencies and allow residential customers to access their water usage data in near-real-time. The project, financed with an energy savings performance contract (ESPC), will guarantee $163,461 in annual savings for the City throughout the 20-year contract period.
The project will utilize Master Meter, a global water-meter manufacturer that features solid-state ultrasonic meter technology. The meters will be connected to Master Meter’s Allegro AMI communication network. The network will capture meter data, such as the gallons used per hour, reverse-flow indication, and other operating data not typically available from traditional mechanical meters and registers. Once the network is online, City of Kaufman customers will have access to My Water Advisor, Master Meter’s customer portal. The portal, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, will provide near-real-time visibility into water consumption.
