Griffith, IN. Griffith Public Schools turned the dirt on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, to celebrate the start of construction for their new aquatic center addition at Griffith Jr. / Sr. High School. This event marks the beginning of a significant $14.25 million improvement project aimed at enhancing the school’s facilities and providing top-notch amenities for students and the community.
The new aquatic center will feature an eight-lane competition pool, which will be available for public use after school hours. This facility is designed to support various aquatic programs, including competitive swimming, water polo, and community swim lessons. The current pool, which has been non-functional for two years and is over 60 years old, will be replaced by this modern facility, ensuring that students and community members have access to high-quality aquatic resources.
Superintendent Leah Dumezich highlighted the significant impact this new facility will have on students in the community, stating, “The construction of our new aquatic center is an exciting step forward for our entire community! This facility will not only provide a space for competitive competition and recreational swimmers but will also serve as a vital resource for water safety education. Drowning prevention and swim instruction are critical skills, and this center will allow us to expand programs that teach children and adults how to stay safe in and around water.”

Construction is expected to be complete by October 2026.
