Performance Services recognizes the importance of reducing construction’s impact on school operations. The first step to maintaining an optimal learning or working environment during construction is developing a plan to integrate construction activities so that the school functions normally.

We develop phasing plans according to school schedules, with the most potentially disruptive work activities over periods when school is not in session. Noise-producing activities are always coordinated and scheduled with the client to minimize disruption.

When potentially disruptive work activities need to occur during the school year, we schedule them outside regular school hours. We separate work areas and learning areas by noise and dust partitions and work diligently with clients to ensure the interaction of the work zones and learning zones is minimized and tightly controlled.

We understand that it is imperative to minimize disruptions caused by a building project. Construction projects are an important aspect of any university campus, but projects cannot be achieved at the cost of unnecessary disruptions around campus.

In order to respond to the unique sets of challenges associated with campus projects, we have developed a communication protocol specifically designed for higher education building projects to ensure our clients stay in control of campus life. Our protocol minimizes disruptions by:

• Actively encouraging stakeholder communication throughout the project
• Providing project schedules in advance to ensure departments and faculty can plan around construction disruptions with plenty of lead-time

• All contractor employees will have background checks performed.
• Firearms and weapons will be prohibited on the property.
• All exterior areas of the construction will have fencing encompassing all employees, equipment, and materials. There will be ample signage prohibiting unauthorized personnel.
• Site superintendents are current with both CPR/First Aid and AED certifications.
• We use sophisticated safety PROCORE software. This software produces documentation on all aspects of the project that can help manage PSI and owner risk. This also produces valuable leading indicator data that can prevent incidents before they occur.

To reduce disruption to school time, Performance Services utilizes time efficient working practices, including:

• All trades work in parallel, not one after the other. This way, project lead time is reduced by doing as many jobs as possible simultaneously, rather than waiting for others to finish before beginning work.
• Project delivery is phased wherever possible, so specific project areas can be made available to the Client quickly, rather than waiting for the whole project to be completed before any occupation can begin.
