Project Description
After a series of design-build school improvement projects, South Vermillion Community School Corporation decided to pursue a guaranteed energy savings project at the South Vermillion Middle School. The project included installing new HVAC equipment and replacing antiquated and outdated controls with new, nonproprietary digital temperature controls. The improvements resulted in overall better temperature, ventilation, and humidity control in the building. Additionally, the upgrades increased the Middle School’s energy efficiency.
Project Overview
- Replaced VAV terminal units and install additional VAV terminal units for rooms that share a thermostat
- Replaced all existing air handling units including new variable frequency drives on supply fans
- Replaced existing boilers with high-efficiency condensing boilers
- Installed new heating hot water pumps with both secondary pumps using variable speed drives for improved efficiency
- Installed new chilled water pumps with both secondary pumps using variable speed drives for improved efficiency
- Replaced heating hot water and chilled water expansion tanks
- Drained, flushed, and replaced heating hot water and chilled water systems with treated water
- Replaced cabinet unit heaters with new
- Replaced existing exhaust fans with new
- Digital temperature controls integrated with new Tridium Niagara front end currently serving High School
