A Commitment to Sustainability Through Solar Energy

Schaumburg School District 54 had long recognized the need to invest in renewable energy to support its sustainability initiatives. However, it had a shortened timeline to get an initial solar project complete. Given the complexities of implementing a large-scale solar project within a shortened Summer 2024 timeline, the District needed a partner with expert that could also move quickly.

After an extensive selection process, the District partnered with Performance Services in early 2024. That summer, District 54 embarked on a comprehensive solar project aimed at reducing energy costs, lowering their carbon footprint, and reinforcing their commitment to sustainability. The first phase of this project included two roof-mounted solar arrays totaling 704.6 kW. One array was installed at Jane Adams Junior High School (430 kW) and the other at Hoover Math and Science Academy (290 kW). The systems were designed to optimize energy production while seamlessly integrating with the district’s infrastructure. The project was completed on time and energized in the Fall of 2024.

As a result of this project, Schaumburg SD 54 will generate 853,461 kWh of clean energy, significantly reducing its reliance on traditional power sources. Over the next 20 years, the district is projected to save $2,626,307—funds that can be reinvested into student programs and educational initiatives. By incorporating solar power into their schools, District 54 is not only achieving immediate cost savings but also fostering a culture of environmental responsibility for students and the community.
