Project Description
In February 2016, the Huntington University Board of Trustees approved the implementation of a campus energy conservation project. Performance Services had been working with the University since the summer of 2015 in order to evaluate the University’s buildings and energy efficiency needs.
The campus energy project included HVAC and lighting upgrades at Habecker Dining Commons, Livingston Residence Hall, Meadows Residence Hall, Miller Residence Hall, Loew-Brenn Hall, Merillat Center for the Arts, Merillat Complex-Fieldhouse and Platt Arena, and the Science Hall. A major energy savings component of the project was retrofitting existing lights to LEDs. Controls integration was another focus on the project. Upgrading and modernizing the controls system saved energy and helped maintenance identify and troubleshoot problems. The Guaranteed Savings Project includes the cost of design, engineering, project management, repairs, retrofits/modifications, installation, measurement and verification, and training.
Project Highlights
- Upgraded campus lighting fixtures to LED in residence halls, academic building, and PE Complex
- Installed new high efficiency condensing boilers at the PE Complex
- Replaced remaining original heat pumps at the dining commons
- Installed a new air-cooled chiller at the Merillat Center for Arts
- Upgraded heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and convert to variable flow
- Expanded campus digital controls
- Integrated existing controls into a new Tridium front-end operating system for ease of use
- Installed variable refrigerant flow system in the remainder of spaces at Becker Hall without HVAC
